Synopsis

Embodied Exegesis: Transfeminine Cyberpunk Futures is a 2024 anthology edited by Ann LeBlanc, gathering original science fiction from transfeminine writers including Ryka Aoki, Elly Bangs, Maya Deane, and more than a dozen others. The stories reimagine cyberpunk and posthuman tropes through a trans lens: gender-affirming body modification, algorithmic surveillance, collective consciousness, and other near- and far-future scenarios grounded in transfeminine experience. As a multi-author collection, each story stands alone, but together they trace a shared preoccupation with embodiment, transformation, and resistance to systems that police the body.

Elly Bangs is an American science fiction writer and a 2017 graduate of the Clarion West workshop. Her short fiction has appeared in Lightspeed, Clarkesworld, Beneath Ceaseless Skies, Escape Pod, and Fireside Quarterly. Her debut novel, the cyberpunk thriller Unity (2021), was named to several year-end best-of lists.

Lillian Boyd is a writer, editor, and musician. She contributed the story "The Repossession of Kevin's Perfect Hair" to Embodied Exegesis: Transfeminine Cyberpunk Futures (2024), an anthology of transfeminine-authored cyberpunk and posthuman fiction edited by Ann LeBlanc.

Maya Deane

Maya Deane is a novelist and visual artist with degrees from the University of Maryland and an MFA from Rutgers-Camden. A trans woman and bisexual writer, she is the author of Wrath Goddess Sing (2022), a debut retelling of the Iliad that casts Achilles as a trans woman; the novel was shortlisted for the Crawford Award and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for Transgender Fiction.
