Bonnie Leben, born in 2000 and based in Berlin, runs the Instagram account "diebonnies," followed by more than 85,000 people, where she documents life with dissociative identity disorder (DID) — a condition once known as multiple personality disorder. Diagnosed at eighteen after severe childhood trauma, she describes how her psyche split into distinct identities as a survival response.

The book's structure mirrors its subject: several of Bonnie's inner personas take turns as narrators across different chapters, each offering their own perspective on shared events. Now a trained art therapist, Leben uses talks, seminars, and public outreach to build understanding of DID and trauma, and this memoir extends that work to a general readership.
