Ein Tag und zwei Leben is told as a serialized story, with a new episode appearing each month and narration alternating between Lea and Damian. Lea has been Damian's best friend for years — his confidante, his shoulder to cry on, and his ringside seat to every relationship drama he's ever had — but she has to hide that she is secretly in love with him, knowing him well enough to suspect he would break her heart too.

Each episode reveals a bit more of the pair's shared past and the will-they-won't-they tension between them, while functioning as a complete story in its own right. Adriana Popescu builds the overall arc gradually across the serialized format rather than through a single continuous narrative.
