If you have reached so far in the series, fellow reader, you probably know that this is just the first part of the last Malazan Book of the Fallen (The Crippled God being the second). The convergence that will rule all convergences is being built page after page here and comes even closer, but along with some characters (even though calling some of these entities just characters is rather an understatement) that we hadn't seen for a while, there are still new characters that enter the scene(s), and some that will leave it in ways not always heroic. A rather grim book -even in the Malazan army parts- in which Erikson explores the themes of time, history, memory, betrayal, destiny and coincidence, and more, and contains some of the cruellest, violent and bitter moments of the series. And of course, everything is written in such a fine prose that many non-genre authors would envy.
Can't wait for the last book!
