The more I get into this world of graphic novels, the more I’m gripped by how magnificent it is. And to read as a memoir at the same time, chef’s kiss! I started Ducks with little to no info about what it is so I went through a lot of emotions.
The author retells a personal experience about when she took one of the male-dominated jobs in one of Alberta’s oil sands, to pay off her student loans. I think this sentence pretty much sums up all that’s to come.
Loved the occasional dark humor: It has offered a sort of balance to the bleakness of the story, but it didn’t take away from the seriousness of it all. There’s little focus on the environment, but it’s been clear that she’s there to tell her story of working in a place “where men outnumber women by as much as fifty to one.”
