Dragon Queen

Set in Britain shortly after the Roman withdrawal, this reimagining of the Arthurian legend follows Guinevere, daughter of a pagan queen, raised in hiding by a shapeshifter and a druid and watched over by dragons after Merlin sets out to destroy her. Merlin fears a prophecy that Guinevere will become queen and Arthur king, a fate that would leave him powerless. When Guinevere proves capable of resisting him, Merlin retaliates by banishing Arthur to a realm from which only death offers escape, forcing Guinevere to call on her growing magic and her allies to save him and fulfill her destiny as the Dragon Queen. It is the first book in the Tales of Guinevere trilogy, left unfinished after Borchardt's death; the second book, The Raven Warrior, continues the story.
