Patrick Modiano (born 30 July 1945 in Boulogne-Billancourt, France) is a French novelist. His novels explore memory, identity, and the German occupation of Paris during the Second World War, often drawing on autobiographical material. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2014, and his earlier honors include the Grand Prix du roman de l'Académie française (1972) and the Prix Goncourt (1978).
