Synopsis

Lucy Knisley volunteers to care for her ailing grandparents on a cruise, a journey that becomes a graphic memoir, travelogue, and family history. Through watercolors that evoke the ocean, Knisley attempts to connect with her grandparents and reconcile their past and present selves. Excerpts from her grandfather's WWII memoir aid her quest as she navigates the stresses of travel, her grandparents' frailty, and her own fears and compassion regarding mortality.
