Synopsis

In a small fishing town on the remote coast of Western Australia, Georgie Jutland is adrift — sleepless, drinking, and estranged from the life she has fallen into with Jim Buckridge, the town's most powerful fisherman, and his two sons. Then she meets Luther Fox, a haunted loner who poaches fish and crayfish under cover of darkness, the sole survivor of a family of musicians wiped out in a single terrible accident.

Their charged, illicit connection sets in motion a chain of events that sends Fox fleeing north into the vast, harsh beauty of the Australian wilderness, with Georgie and Jim caught up in the pursuit.

Tim Winton's Dirt Music is a lyrical, elemental novel of grief, desire, and landscape — a love story braided into the immense, indifferent country that shapes its characters.
