Synopsis

In a small seaside town during the 1960s-70s, three young people confront their disillusionment over eighteen unforgettable summer days. The narrator is obsessed with a deceased American writer, his girlfriend makes a difficult choice about an unplanned pregnancy, and his wealthy friend Nezumi seeks solace in alcohol. Haruki Murakami's debut novel explores the clash of traditional and modern values among anti-establishment Japanese youth with no clear vision for their future.
