Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old Robinson Crusoe and his companion Friday are rescued from the Caribbean island where they survived for years and dropped into 1690s London — a city that turns out to be just as dangerous to navigate as the island they left. Their survival skills catch the attention of Daniel Defoe, a young writer who recruits them for Segment W, a covert intelligence unit answering to the Crown. Their first assignment: stop the kidnapping of the Countess of Lichfield by the Circle of Thirteen, a shadowy group plotting to bring down Segment W and alter the course of history. With King Charles II and Sir Isaac Newton among the historical figures they cross paths with, Dawn of Spies opens a series that reimagines Crusoe as a teenage spy rather than Defoe's original castaway.

Frequently asked questions

  • Is Dawn of Spies a retelling of Robinson Crusoe?

Not exactly. It reimagines Crusoe and Friday as teenage spies in 1690s London after their island rescue, distinct from Defoe's original castaway novel — though Defoe himself appears as a character.
