"Das Joshua-Profil" (2015) is a psychological thriller by German bestselling author Sebastian Fitzek, adapted into an RTL television film in 2018.
Unsuccessful writer Max Rhode is driving his foster daughter Jola to a parent-teacher conference when he receives a call from an unknown person urging him to come immediately to the intensive care unit at Westend Hospital, because the caller doesn't have much time left. In the chaos that follows, Jola is kidnapped, and Max discovers he has been selected — without his consent — for a covert initiative called "Joshua," built around predictive policing: analyzing the digital trail a person leaves through phone use, banking, email, and browsing to forecast their future behavior, including crimes they haven't yet committed.
As Max races to get Jola back, he's forced to confront the possibility that the profile assembled from his own data says he will soon commit a serious crime himself. Fitzek simultaneously published a companion novel, "Die Blutschule," under the pseudonym Max Rhode, deliberately blurring the line between the thriller's fiction and its own publication history.
