Das grüne Tuch
"Vollstrecker der Königin: Das grüne Tuch" by Angelika Diem is a prequel collection of three linked novellas in the "Vollstrecker der Königin" fantasy series, positioned chronologically before "Der Baeldin-Mord."
In the title novella, "Das grüne Tuch," almost-thirteen-year-old Caitlynn first defies her autocratic father, and once it becomes clear she has no use in the marriage market, her mother sends her to the Black Tower to train as an executioner. In "Halbe Hand," when Caitlynn's grandmother Melana — a master healer — refuses to answer a summons from the Prince of Faelin, his men kidnap sixteen-year-old Caitlynn to force the old woman's cooperation. In "Schmerztrinker," Caitlynn attends a festival with Melana and her colleagues to sell their wares.
Together the three stories build the backstory of Caitlynn, the series' heroine, bridging the gap between her childhood and the point where she takes on the murder investigation at the center of the first novel.
A young woman trained as an executioner at the Black Tower, later the series' investigator of the Baeldin murder.
Caitlynn's grandmother, a master healer sought after by the Prince of Faelin.
