Synopsis

A body is left on a lonely road at the edge of the Everglades, staged with a care that tells Special Agent Amy Larson of the Florida state police she is not looking at an ordinary murder. The ritual markings suggest something organised, something practised, and something that intends to do it again.

The case draws in the FBI in the form of Special Agent Hunter Forrest, a man whose understanding of violent cults is not theoretical. As Amy and Hunter work the case together across Florida's cattle country and swampland, each lead pulls them deeper into a doctrine whose believers are prepared to kill to see it fulfilled.

Heather Graham's romantic suspense pairs a procedural investigation with a slow-building partnership between two agents, opening a storyline about a cult whose ambitions reach well past a single body.
