What a fun read for this one. A combination of fantasy and magical realism that goes so enticingly whimsical with a uniquely plotted arc that was set in a mysterious town where dreams are being sold. Meet Penny, the new-hire at the famous DallerGut Department Store where most visitors both human and animal from all over the world—days and nights—would shuffle sleepily in their pyjamas lining up to purchase their latest dream adventures. A tale that brought me to uncover the beauty of dreams and its mythical escapade— too wondrous of how it can indirectly affected one’s reality, as well how these people including Penny herself, could find their solace and a muse to life.
I like the worldbuilding a lot although at times I do crave to see more around the town (in volume 2, perhaps?), love those interesting Noctilucas and it amazes me too to see that most things happening throughout this dreamy world was set as almost the same as our reality— they have TVs and banks, cafe to chill also a winter setting with Christmas on the way. An appealing and cunning dream system that too heartfelt for me to read on its after-event of each dreams sold; a sweet heartwarming peek into these people’s lives, and to see how their emotions started to send payment to DallerGut’s Dream Pay system later with freedom, regret, flutter or wonder.
The dreammakers part making me go a bit in awe (I like Maxim’s specialty!) and DallerGut himself— love his train of thoughts and the backstory of how he started the department store. Penny can be a bit nuisance at first yet I find her dynamic later to be interesting much; to see how she coping with the environment and finding new friendship, to learn on trust and sincerity as well never to judge and assume.
So enjoyably written overall. Quite wise and endearing for the idea too. A recommendation to lovers of fantasy or if you’re new to this genre, this’ll be a great catch for something light and cozy!
4/5 stars.
