Crypt of the Moon Spider
In 1923, Veronica is dropped off by her husband at the Barrowfield Home for Treatment of the Melancholy, an asylum on the dark, forested side of the moon, her depression having become an inconvenience he no longer wishes to manage. The facility's ambitious director, Dr. Cull, has discovered a tribe of priests who once served the Moon Spiders that ruled the lunar caves, and whose silk, woven into a patient's mind, can seemingly cure the incurable. Veronica wants nothing more than to return home whole and happy, but in the crypts beneath Barrowfield, the priests and the doctor both have plans for her that have nothing to do with healing. The first novella in a planned Lunar Gothic trilogy, this is a slim, unsettling piece of gothic body horror about grief, control, and what is done to women's minds in the name of a cure.
