Mike Carey (Michael James Carey, born 1959 in Liverpool) is a British writer of comics, novels and screenplays who also publishes prose fiction as M. R. Carey. He studied English at St Peter's College, Oxford, and taught for around fifteen years before writing full time. In comics he wrote the long-running Vertigo series Lucifer, a run on Hellblazer, and the creator-owned Crossing Midnight and The Unwritten (with artist Peter Gross), plus several years on Marvel's X-Men titles.
