Synopsis

A young, wealthy, unnamed Palestinian woman arrives in New York to teach English at a private boys' school, funded less by her salary than by the inheritance left when her parents died in a car crash. Immaculately dressed and privately unraveling, she polices her body and her surroundings with obsessive rigor — until she falls in with a homeless swindler and the two launch an audacious scheme reselling Birkin bags across continents. A feverish, brilliant debut about money, cleanliness, exile, and the impossible work of holding oneself together.
