Sophie is 17 when she discovers a strange new ability: she can connect with and manipulate any Wi-Fi-capable device around her. She isn't alone — a Frenchman named Jean shares the same gift — but the two of them aren't the only ones aware of it. A mysterious organization is hunting them across the world, determined to find out what they can really do.

Laura Newman's "Coherent" mixes young-adult science fiction with romance and thriller pacing: a near-future setting grounded in real-world locations, a slow-building connection between Sophie and Jean, and an organization whose motives stay opaque for much of the book.

The novel was published by Drachenmond Verlag in 2015 and stands apart from Newman's "Nachtsonne" trilogy as a standalone work.
