Synopsis

In this sharp Renaissance comedy, an aging Florentine patriarch and his young son find themselves locked in a bitter rivalry for the affections of Clizia, an orphan girl raised in their household. As both men scheme to marry her off to compliant servants to secure her for themselves, the family's clever matriarch steps in to orchestrate her own counter-plots. What follows is a witty battle of wits, deception, and domestic power struggles that exposes the absurdities of desire and the lengths to which people will go to get what they want.
