Synopsis

Loren Calla and Darien Cassel are trying to settle back into ordinary life in Angelthene after surviving the dangers of Kalendae. It does not last. The Terran Imperator blackmails Loren into working for him, and he wants the one thing she no longer has: her magic.

To keep Darien safe, Loren agrees to the imperator's terms and starts keeping the details from him. Her growing contact with the imperator's son pulls her further from the man she loves.

Darien, meanwhile, takes charge of the Darkslayers to stop his late father's criminal empire from falling into worse hands. The choice drags him into Angelthene's underworld and turns old allies against him. As the secrets pile up on both sides, the distance between them grows. Darien also starts seeing things that nobody else can explain.

City of Souls and Sinners is the second book in the House of Devils series, following City of Gods and Monsters. It keeps the blackmail and political scheming of book one, but now the pressure lands on Loren and Darien themselves.
