Chill Mal, Frau Freitag

"Chill Mal, Frau Freitag" collects the blog posts of the pseudonymous German teacher known as Frau Freitag, who teaches English and art and serves as homeroom teacher for a famously chaotic class at a German comprehensive school (Gesamtschule).

Written as short, self-contained chapters, the book moves between comic disasters — parent-teacher conferences that need an interpreter because the parents barely speak German, students who test every rule in the book — and quieter moments where Frau Freitag reflects on why she still loves the job despite the daily exhaustion. The tone is realistic satire rather than sentimental memoir: she is fond of her students but never pretends the classroom is easy.

The book grew out of Frau Freitag's popular blog and established her as a voice in the German-language genre of humorous teacher memoirs.
