Children of Time is a rare sci-fi book that actually feels fresh. It commits to something much bigger than just the tired "humans fighting aliens" trope. It follows the slow, grinding evolution of a spider civilization and the desperate remnants of humanity over thousands of years. The only gripe I had was with some of the spider POVs. While fascinating, I sometime couldn't wait to finish the chapter and move back to the human perspective.
