Synopsis

When Fern Arable saves a runt piglet from being culled, she names him Wilbur and raises him by hand — until he grows too big for the house and moves to her uncle's barn. There, lonely among animals who shun him, Wilbur befriends Charlotte, a barn spider who discovers he's due to be slaughtered come winter and vows to save him.

Charlotte's plan is to weave words like "Some Pig" into her web, convincing the farm's owners that Wilbur is too remarkable to kill. With help from the self-interested rat Templeton, her plan works — Wilbur wins a prize at the county fair and his life is spared. But Charlotte, who has spent herself laying her egg sac, does not survive to see it; Wilbur carries her legacy forward in the children she leaves behind. A classic meditation on friendship, mortality, and quiet heroism.
