Synopsis

On the Mississippi Gulf Coast, a family grapples with poverty, addiction, and the lingering ghosts of their past. Jojo, a thirteen-year-old boy, strives to protect his younger sister, Kayla, as their mother, Leonie, struggles with drug use and an inability to care for them. When their white father is released from prison, Leonie takes the children on a difficult journey to retrieve him, forcing them to confront the harsh realities of their lives and the spectral presences that haunt their lineage.
