By Any Other Name
Synopsis
By Any Other Name is a standalone contemporary romance by Lauren Kate, published in 2022 and her first novel for adults.
Lanie Bloom edits romance in New York, is engaged to a man who satisfies every item on the long list she wrote for herself, and has just been handed the assignment of her career: work with Noa Callaway, the bestselling novelist whose books shaped how Lanie thinks about love. All she has to do is get Callaway past a bad case of writer's block and the promotion is hers.
The trouble is that Noa Callaway is a pen name, and the person behind it is Noah Ross — a man Lanie has already met, and whose identity the publisher has spent years protecting. Lanie has been corresponding with him by email for seven years without knowing it. Working together in person, dragging him around New York in search of something that will unstick the book, forces her to reconsider the list, the fiancé, and the novels themselves.
The book is warm and mostly light, with a grief thread underneath it and a publishing-world backdrop drawn from the inside.
