Synopsis

A series of bizarre deaths plague New York City, leaving victims with a strange, burned mark. Dr. Lowell, a psychiatrist, finds himself drawn into the investigation when his patients begin to exhibit disturbing symptoms related to the mysterious occurrences. He soon uncovers a sinister plot involving ancient witchcraft and a powerful, malevolent force.

Abraham Grace Merritt was born in Beverly, New Jersey. In 1894, he moved with his family to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He worked to become a lawyer, but instead became a journalist. In 1912 he became assistant editor of The American Weekly until 1937, when he became its editor. He also wrote fiction, including eight novels.
