Such an exhilarating journey from Tokyo to Morioka. A 10-cars shinkansen, 5 killers and a suitcase full of money. Love the idea and its setting, compelling with an average intense vibe-- more to a fun and quirky rather than a serious crime mystery for me.
The chapters were told accordingly to each character's perspective, some are redundantly told because of the intertwined narratives but I think the author did great in making it enjoyable that I don't care much on the repetitiveness.
The characters are my favourite; from both Lemon and Tangerine to Nanao and Yuichi. I don't favour Prince that much though, he's 14 and annoying. I don't find his motive that gripping and necessary; his curiosity is too much and so unwelcomed. Of all those questions and coincidences, that unlucky Nanao and all the Thomas & Friends references; Lemon can be cute and random all at once, and I am really a huge fan to Tangerine (thanks for loving Mishima and recommending Woolf, also you quoting Crime and Punishment making me feel bad for not reading it sooner).
The earliest development was my favourite but along to the middle it got swayed a bit with random chatting and topics which making it quite draggy. Nevertheless, I love the assassins stories; about the hornet and the suicide specialist, the fight scene (although it caused a terrible ending) and 'morning glory' chapters. Not much suspense but just a nice conflict to arouse tension for the plot.
A witty ending and I actually love that combo of Nanao with both lemon and tangerine (literally). That mysterious Suzuki, I am still having my eyes on you!
Thanks to Pansing Distribution for gifting me copy of Bullet Train in return of my honest review!
