Synopsis

In 1912 Montana, a Lutheran pastor named Arthur Beaucarne begins transcribing the confession of a Blackfeet man called Good Stab, who arrives at his church night after night to tell an impossible story. Good Stab is old beyond reckoning, and what he describes is a life turned monstrous: a man made into a blood-drinker, moving through the vanishing world of the Blackfeet as buffalo herds and people alike are slaughtered by white settlers and soldiers.

As the confession unspools, it circles a real historical atrocity—a massacre that left more than two hundred Blackfeet dead in the snow—and the terrible, patient vengeance it set in motion. Framed as an unearthed diary read by a present-day descendant, the novel braids past and present into a single accusatory reckoning.

A historical horror epic by Stephen Graham Jones, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is a vampire story unlike any other: a furious, sorrowful meditation on genocide, memory, and survival in the American West.
