I was able to get an ARC for this book at this year’s Y’allFest!
Okay, so I’ve mentioned before that I LOVE Jane Eyre, right? I also love science fiction. So, when I realized that this book was basically Jabe Eyre in space, I was really excited. Like, over the moon excited.
And it lived up to it! I was able to see easily how Donne took from the events of Jane Eyre and made them her own, and I loved the world she built through it. The background plot was a great addition, making the book about more than just romance, and the characters held my attention (I love Jessa so, so much).
World-building, here, totally makes sense to me. I’m no scientist, so I have no idea if any of that aspect holds up, but it was easy for me to understand and make sense of it all. And those spaceships are brilliant and I want one.
Donne’s writing is easy, though by no means boring, and very engaging. Towards the end, I was literally unable to put the book down! And really, the fact that I read it in two days says something about how absorbed I was in the story.
As it is, I would recommend Brightly Burning! Look out for it in May of this year!
