Synopsis

Lada has built the Wallachia she always wanted: ruthless, orderly, and free of crime, ruled with a justice that spares no one. But peace with the Ottoman Empire depends on borders Lada refuses to honor, and when she sends Mehmed's peace envoy back to him in pieces, war becomes inevitable.

Mehmed, now sultan and more powerful than ever, is also more alone than ever, caught between the empire he is building and the two people who have shaped his life since childhood. Radu, still reeling from the unknown fates of Nazira and Cyprian, is pulled back to the new capital as the conflict between the once-inseparable trio comes to its bloody, inevitable end.

Bright We Burn closes out Kiersten White's reimagining of Vlad the Impaler as a woman clawing her way to power in the 15th-century Ottoman Empire, alongside the brother and the sultan who loved her.
