Brigands and Breadknives isn't quite my favorite in this series... turns out I'm not that big a fan of Fern as the central voice. That's not to say it's without merit. The book remains heartwarming, still offering that nice "cozy" reading experience with relatively low stakes. Sometimes you just need a story that won't emotionally destroy you, you know? It serves as a pleasant enough break from heavier fare, a blanket fort of a novel that asks nothing too taxing from you.
But it never quite captured my attention the way Legends & Lattes or Bookshops & Bonedust did. Those books had a spark, a kind of gravitational pull that this one just... lacked. It's the literary equivalent of a decent cup of tea when you were hoping for coffee. Warm and comforting, sure, but ultimately forgettable once you've set it down. A solid two and a half out of five for fans of gentle, low stakes fantasy.
