#TheBlackKids is a coming of age story that explores issues of race, class, and violence through the eyes of a wealthy black teenager Ashley Bennett in a school with mostly white kids. Until everything changes when four LAPD officers are acquitted after beating a black man named Rodney King half to death (based on true events). Thus a violent protest engulfed (of the 1992 Rodney King's Riot).
Even as a comparison to #TheHateYouGave, slow burn but an exceptional read in its own way/story. While the riots are the back drop to the story, we see how Ashley struggles with her Blackness
"Sometimes it's hard being a girl, and it’s hard being black. Being both is like carrying a double load, but you’re not supposed to complain about it."
And the impact on her family.
Ok that's enough.... These aren't new, it's depressing racism is still an ongoing issue and we Black are exhausted while still trying to live normally.
