China Bayles heads to South Texas for Thanksgiving, planning to visit her mother and catch up with a game warden friend. However, her mother's husband suffers a heart attack, and a local helper, Sue Ellen, is found dead in what appears to be an accident. Meanwhile, a veterinarian's murder and stolen fawns lead the game warden on a separate investigation. China suspects Sue Ellen's death is no accident and that both cases are connected, putting their lives at risk as they search for the truth.
