Better Luck Next Time

Better Luck Next Time is a Cara Bastone Audible Original, written for audio and performed as a full-cast production led by Mae Whitman and Colin Woodell. Mona and Duncan were best friends, then they were not, and the reasons have never been properly discussed. On a car journey neither of them wanted to share, they drive through something they cannot explain and arrive in a version of their lives where they have been married for years.

The premise is a timeslip comedy, but the engine is the argument they never had: the missed timing, the thing one of them didn't say, the friendship that was too important to risk and got lost anyway.

Produced as an audio drama — dialogue, sound design and original songs rather than narration — it plays closer to a film than a read-aloud novel, and it is not available as a print text.
