As a blue collar wife who's husband is her literal best friend, I found the FMC to be hard to like. Her attitude was so rigid and entitled. The first 4 chapters made her the stereotypical city girl slummin in the deep south. I personally did not like her at all, but then chapter 5 does this unique thing of softening her attitude and making it more banter than anything. After 3 books, our MMC is mentioned enough to where you feel like you already know him so you almost feel defensive over him and his life.
Tori (FMC) and Marcus (MMC) always communicate with this out of spite energy. Whatever he says or assumes about her, she says/does the opposite. And she isn't afraid to return that energy back to him.
"Loner" is used to describe Marcus by everyone who knows him and Tori describes herself this way. Neither have friends aside from those they consider family. Neither are good at relationships. Tori is more talkative and Marcus is more of a listen and observe type. Cynical is the perfect word to explain why Marcus is the way he is. His life has not allowed for him to be optimistic.
There is so much more yearning in this installment to the series. Maybe it's because Tori has been married before?
