Banded
In a divided future Manhattan, citizens are sorted at sixteen into one of six zones based on their perceived value to society: Stalwart, Astute, Collusive, Radiant, Quixotic, and Altruistic. Every citizen wears a Band, a device that scores their behavior on a scale of one to a hundred — break the rules too often and the Band itself administers a lethal dose when the count hits zero.
Kalenna Slater is pulled out of Quixotic, the zone for the aimless, and sorted into Altruistic. She's sent to HQ, a mandatory three-month training program, where she starts to build a life among new friends and a boy named Gavin. But a rare trip back to her old neighborhood unravels the story she's always been told about her father, who disappeared a decade earlier — and about the system she's just been folded into.
Banded is the first book in Logan Byrne's self-published dystopian YA series, working in the same lane as sorting-society stories like Divergent, with a distinctly personal, ticking-clock threat built into the premise.
Sorted from Quixotic into Altruistic on her sixteenth birthday; uncovers a family secret tied to her missing father.
Fellow Altruistic recruit at HQ who becomes close to Kalenna.
