Babyville
Babyville follows three friends whose lives are upended by motherhood. Julia, a high-flying TV producer, is convinced that having a baby will save her fraying relationship with her boyfriend Mark. Maeve has never wanted children, until an unplanned pregnancy forces her to reconsider her whole life. Samantha already has a baby, but finds that stay-at-home motherhood brings exhaustion and marital strain rather than the fulfillment she expected, and she begins to wonder about her husband's charming friend.
Told in three linked sections, one for each woman, Jane Green's novel is less about babies than about how the prospect and reality of parenthood reshapes friendship, romance and identity for women who thought they knew what they wanted.
