Awakening

Awakening opens Leigh Walker's Equinox Pact, a young adult paranormal romance set on the isolated island of Dawnhaven. After her mother's death, Taylor Hale is sent to live with her father, his new wife, and a stepsister who makes no secret of resenting her. Her plan is simply to survive senior year unnoticed.

That plan collapses when she meets James Champlain, whose family owns half the island, including the old mansion known as the Tower. James is drawn to Taylor and she to him, but he can see things other people cannot, and he is careful about what he says. As strange events accumulate around Taylor, it becomes clear that the island sits on a fault line between older forces.

The book leans on the familiar furniture of YA paranormal romance: the outsider heroine, the wealthy and secretive love interest, a small town with a hidden order beneath it. It is the first of three books, and it ends on the promise of what comes next rather than a resolution.
