Synopsis

This critical edition presents Tobias Smollett's 1776 translation of Bishop Fenelon's influential 1699 work, 'The Adventures of Telemachus.' Originally written as a 'mirror for princes' for Louis XIV's heir, this book was a highly popular and respected work throughout the eighteenth century. Smollett, known for his novels, delivered one of the finest English versions, now fully restored to his credit by Leslie A. Chilton.
