At the End There Was You
The world will end in seven days.
Winter is a Priestess, and her life is simple and uncomplicated — until she is appointed as an aide to a Mage who intends to stop the God of Death from spreading a plague that would end their world. The two of them begin searching the Urvalis library for answers, and find rather more than they had bargained for. As the end draws nearer, the questions only grow vaguer.
At the End There Was You is a short novella of about 140 pages, self-published by Wendy Heiss in June 2023. It is the first of the Blue Fairytales, a set of standalone novellas. Readers describe it as a haunting, conversation-led story whose two leads, Winter and Azrael, move from an uneasy working partnership into friendship and then romance as the last week of the world runs down.
A Priestess with a quiet, uncomplicated life, appointed as aide to the Mage trying to stop the God of Death.
The novella's second lead, alongside Winter. The two move from working partners to friends and, as the end approaches, to something more.
