Synopsis

When Dr. Abner Perry's experimental digging machine goes haywire, he and his student David Innes are sent hurtling into the Earth's core. They discover Pellucidar, a prehistoric world teeming with danger and strange inhabitants. Captured by primitive soldiers and enslaved by telepathic bird-like creatures, they must find a way to survive and escape this subterranean realm.

Edgar Rice Burroughs was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of a businessman. During the Chicago influenza epidemic in 1891, he spent half a year on his brothers' ranch on the Raft River in Idaho. He attended the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts and then the Michigan Military Academy, from which he graduated in 1895.
