ansel, the first book in the regretfully yours series.
(I don’t know how this book has high ratings? do women not have high standards, where is the groveling? just once and twice and done?) the angst is written so well, but the groveling is …😤
Neha rao is an assistant to ansel, her boss, she has helped him with numbers, always checking the reports, before submitting to ansel, she made sure he was steps ahead, answered questions which she anticipated will be asked in the meetings, makes sure he eats, knows his order more than he does. and then there’s vanessa who bad mouths Neha, and asks ansel if he’s take her up when he’s promoted, and this aashole doesn’t defend, just says, “I know” when vanessa says, “she’s not that capable ” 😤😤😤 ugh, I was already so annoyed with ansel. and then Neha overhears it when she was bringing a report to him, so she quits before he fires her. he never planned to take her to the top with him, he was being dishonest. this asshole.
ughhh— I can’t stop cursing.
I missed the little detail, where Ansel thinks the person replacing his job will have Neha as their assistant, but they are bringing their own assistant, so Neha is left with no job, and on top of that, Neha used to make sure that ansel had everything in order to be promoted and work efficiently, and this f•••••? he just let her go.
after that, Neha starts working for penny’s cafe, her friend’s cafe, and there ansel comes to apologise.
please. 😮💨 Neha doesn’t forgive him, and leaves.
(i’m writing all of this in short, and might have missed some details, read other reviews to know more)
Ansel does grovel, makes sure that she gets a job with certain someone who he may have talked high about Neha.
and then decides to quit his job, Neha tells him that she’ll support him, which he tells her no, he’ll manage from his savings.
ansel suddenly confesses his love out of nowhere? when did that happen?
he was insecure, did not feel good enough, and he had loved her? uhm, that was out of nowhere. where is the much needed forgiveness arc? if that’s what the story’s gonna go, the hea.
We don’t want hea without grovelling.
I have to say, maya writes the angst very well, it hurts, but the groveling men? 😮💨 it’s not enough. (maybe because i’m a misandrist and I expect more).
overall, this story is good, but the groveling could have been better. I didn’t feel their love, it felt out of nowhere, rushed, and unnecessary. i know it’s a story story, but then please don’t write groveling men when there’s just 4% of that.
