ARC from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review
I wanted to like this more, and while it didn’t fully deliver, I didn’t dislike it either. The story felt a bit slow at times, and there were moments where not much seemed to happen, which made it harder to stay fully engaged. Still, there were aspects I appreciated enough to keep reading.
Annie started off as an interesting character—I liked her confidence and determination in the beginning. However, as the story went on, those same traits became a bit repetitive and, at times, frustrating. It felt like her personality didn’t evolve much beyond that initial impression, which made it harder to stay invested in her journey. Connor, on the other hand, felt underdeveloped. He was just kind of there, and aside from a few surface-level details, I didn’t feel like I really got to know him.
There was some initial tension and banter between them that I enjoyed, but it faded pretty quickly. Their relationship developed very fast, and I found it hard to fully believe in it. The shift from barely knowing each other to being comfortable and close happened too abruptly, and I wish there had been more buildup, tension, and emotional depth—especially considering he’s technically her boss, which could have added more complexity.
