Synopsis

Angelika Frankenstein comes from a family where everyone finds true love. At this rate, she is going to be the exception. Every suitor in her circle has run out. When her brother Victor's experiment succeeds in reviving a man built from mismatched parts, she sees a chance no other woman has: a gentleman built to her own specifications, recovering in the guest suite.

The plan goes wrong the moment he sits up. He has no memory of who he was, no comfort in the body he woke up in, and no interest in courtship while both are missing. Angelika names him Will and joins his hunt for his old identity instead, trailing him through the investigation she meant to be a romance.

Victor's own creation is loose in the forest. His wedding is bearing down regardless, and a soldier newly arrived in the neighborhood starts pressing his own suit on Angelika. She has to decide whether a man she assembled can ever choose her back, or whether wanting him to is its own kind of experiment.

It plays the premise for gothic comedy as much as for romance. The ending is happy, but colder and stranger at the edges than a standard love story, and it still carries some of the unease from the book it is answering. Sally Thorne, known for The Hating Game, turns Mary Shelley's story into a standalone paranormal rom-com.
