I was absolutely certain that this book was going to be very boring, I initially wanted to skip it because, to be honest, I want to read Colin and Penelope’s story more than anything, but it was a very pleasant surprise.
I didn’t think that I was going to like the Cinderella retelling, but I actually enjoyed it a lot. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that Sophie was from the lower class, so the story was very different from the previous books. I liked seeing the perspective of someone who has more concerns than just getting married and attending social events.
I’m not sure I loved Benedict tbh, he acted like an idiot and I didn’t like how he treated Sophie sometimes. He’s a completely different Benedict from the Netflix show. However I understand that at that time there were other rules and restrictions regarding who you could relate to and fall in love with, so I can't expect him to behave and think like a modern man either. But in the end he redeemed himself and accepted Sophie and that's what's important.
