Synopsis

Caroline Hardcastle broke off her engagement to Valentine Thorn years ago, and the class snobbery that ended things between them hasn't gone away. Now Val's cousin Frank is engaged to Caro's close friend Effie, an actress his family considers beneath him, in an echo of what happened to Caro herself. When Effie vanishes and Frank becomes the prime suspect, Caro and Val have no choice but to work together to clear his name and find her before the case turns deadly. Set in Victorian London, this historical romance leans into cozy-mystery territory, mixing a missing-persons investigation with the tension of two people who never quite got over each other.
