Altered

Anna lives on a farmhouse where nothing can be spoken aloud. Her father works for an organisation called the Branch and runs its newest project in the lab beneath their home: he monitors four genetically altered boys and gives them their treatments.

The boys are Nick, who is solemn and brooding, Cas, who is light-hearted and playful, Trev, who is smart and caring, and Sam, the one Anna has fallen for. When the Branch decides to take the boys away, Sam arranges an escape. Anna's father urges her to leave with them and makes Sam promise to keep her out of the Branch's reach, whatever it costs.

Once they are on the run, his warning stays with Anna and she starts to doubt what she believed about her own identity. She learns that she and Sam share a connection neither of them expected.

This is a young adult thriller with a romance at its centre, driven by flight and pursuit. To survive, the pair must put together clues about the past the boys were made to forget, and they must do it before the Branch catches up and takes that past from them for good.
