A red night of bells heralds global catastrophe — annihilation on a biblical scale. Across a Britain stripped of infrastructure and society, the survivors can only hide or try to outrun the infernal hunting horrors that now stalk the land, until rumor spreads that the sea may offer an escape. Ordinary, directionless Karl is one of the few who survives the first night. Fleeing south with two orphans in tow, he finds only worse revelations and greater peril in a transformed world, where an expanding race of ravening creatures awaits. Driven to the end of the country and of himself, Karl must overcome both alien and human malevolence and act in ways that were unthinkable days before, in this apocalyptic horror from Adam Nevill.
