DNF at 31% because of this line: “Goodness, she was putty in his hands when he was gentlemanly to her. Usually he was such a wretch, so she got all soft and malleable at the least little kindness.”

This line sums up everything I dislike about this book. The love interest is a complete jerk. Yet, Lydia likes him anyway. I really don't understand, and I can't convince myself to read a book where it's okay for him to be incessantly rude and annoying to her and for her to not care. I can't get my thoughts in order for a proper rant, so this'll have to do.

On the other hand, I like Lydia! I like her backstory and her skill with languages and her job and her demanding respect. I just hate hate hate Bane.
